MÄRKLIN & RAILROADS
www.trains-and-trains.dk : A personal view by Christian Vinaa
USA : Michigan
Michigan might not have a lot of railroads left, but what's left is worth seeing.
There is a lot of railroad history in Michigan, especially train ferries.
The main activity today are the 2 connections to Canada ( Port Huron and Detroit )
The "Pere Marquette Railway" was once a famous part of the Michigan railroads, and the name still lives on in many train- and railroad-related things in Michigan.
One remaining steam-locomotive, # 1225 Pere Marquette 2-8-4, went to movie-fame in the 2004-movie "The Polar Express".
The 1225 is owned by the Steam Railroading Institute in Owosso, Michigan, and is still operative.
Grand HavenIn Grand Haven a beautiful steam locomotive, # 1223, is on display together with a box-car and a caboose.
( There is no shortage of cabooses in the USA. It seems that almost every little town has a caboose on display. )
CadillacIn Cadillac you can find on display in the city park, close to the railroad station a "SHAY" locomotive; the Shay # 1.
