  • One of the great things at the "Märklintage" are the real trains that visit the train station in Göppingen :
    1. Trains, locomotive and cars, that come and stay during the "Märklintage".
    2. Locomotives that come and stay during the "Märklintage".
    3. Trains that come with visitors; arriving in the morning and departing in the afternoon.

    1. Trains, locomotives and cars, that come and stay during the "Märklintage"

"Usually" this is the special train from the Bavarian Railway Museum in Nördlingen / Bayerisches Eisenbahnmuseum

Typically around 5-7 steam locomotives, a railbus, several electric locomotives, vintage passenger cars and a few freight cars.

All locomotives and cars are shunted into one long train for the transfers from Nördlingen to Göppingen and back.

This transfer train is really worth a view.

The train from Nördlingen arrives in Göppingen in the afternoon on the day before the "Märklintage" starts.

This "transfer" is called a "Überführungs-zug" and the time-schedule can usually be found on Märklin's website about 3-5 days before the "Märklintage" starts.

Normally ( in 2011, 2013, 2015 ) the transfer to Göppingen runs through the towns of Aalen, Schwäbisch Gmünd, Schorndorf, Bad Cannstatt (Stuttgart East), Esslingen, Göppingen. In 2009 though the train arrived from the Geislinger Steige side.

The train is most likely to be delayed, subject to the whims of the Deutsche Bahn, so the train will typically arrive in Göppingen later than expected. Could be anything from 30 minutes to 5 hours.

Taking fotographs of this "Transfer" train is very popular amongst photographers.

On Sunday afternoon the train will travel back to Nördlingen typically over the Geislinger Steige, Ulm, Donauwörth, Nördlingen, but the return trip could also be the same as the route over Aalen.

The farewell from Göppingen is always a huge event :
    Check these videos from 2009 - 2001 and 2013 :

On e.g. Youtube you can find further videoes. Search for "Märklin + Tage + Überführungs-zug".

During the "Märklintage" 2-3 steam locomotives will take the vintage passenger cars, sometimes in double traction, sometimes one in front - one behind, Göppingen - Amstetten - Göppingen, one trip Saturday and one trip Sunday.

Another train is the UEF train from the museum railway UEF Lokalbahn Amstetten-Gerstetten

It normally runs from Amstetten to Gerstetten, but during the "Märklintage" it drives Göppingen - Plochingen - Göppingen about 5 times a day. It consists of a steam locomotive and 4-5 vintage passenger cars.

During the "Märklintage" it makes transfer trips Amstetten - Göppingen in the morning and Göppingen - Amstetten in the afternoon.

    2. Locomotives that come and stay during the Treff

    This varies each year.

Several railway museums might contribute, but most likely to participate are the railroad museums in Heilbron : Süddeutsches Eisenbahnmuseum Heilbronn ➚ and in Horb : SVG Eisenbahn-Erlebniswelt Horb am Neckar

The "Die Roten Heuler - ET 25 & ET 65" is normally stationed in Horb.

    3. Trains that come with visitors

    This varies a lot.

Some of the trains that have been used are various old electric locomotives, the Rheingold cars from 1928 with the S 3/6 18478 & the V200.
